Come What May

RHS Chelsea, London 2019

Installation 4m x 4m x 4m

Examining the delicate balance in which the future of nature hangs Come What May is inspired by and contains tangles grown in hedgerows, wisps of leggy grasses in forgotten corners of fields and wildflower meadows, the sculpture presented spring’s natural beauty to be observed and treasured.

Its title plays upon the surprise element of spring, as well as a macabre warning of the disorder that ensues if balance is not restored between humans and the rest of nature.

The artwork serves as a ‘Mayday’ warning; an international radio distress signal used to report a life-threatening emergency. Driving my work and celebration of nature is a deep concern for our planet, and responds to the Mayday warnings that signal its distress.
